Community College of Baltimore County | Dundalk Campus, Lloyd Building
7200 Sollers Point Road, Baltimore, MD

As the nation approaches the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Maryland educators, students, and community partners are gathering to explore what the founding ideals mean in practice today. This event centers the Declaration as a living civic text, one that challenges each generation to strengthen democracy through knowledge, skills, service, and shared responsibility.

A Day to Learn, Connect, and Act

The 2026 Maryland Civic Education & Engagement Leadership Summit is designed to be an energizing, hands-on day where educators, students, parents, civic organizations, and community members learn together, share ideas, and leave inspired to take action. The program connects the ideals of the Declaration of Independence to the real civic questions and opportunities people are navigating today.

Participants can expect interactive conversations, practical workshops, student-led projects showcase, and space to build relationships across schools, organizations, and communities.

Call for Presenters & Participants

The Maryland Civic Education Coalition invites educators, students, civic organizations, museums, libraries, journalists and media partners, higher education leaders, and community practitioners to take part in the 2026 Maryland Civic Education & Engagement Leadership Summit by sharing their work, ideas, and experiences in one of several ways. This Summit offers a shared space to celebrate civic learning, spark new ideas, and recommit to the work of democracy together.

Workshops

Open to Educators, Students, and Community Partners

We welcome proposals for 50-minute interactive workshops that engage participants in civic learning, discussion, and skill-building. Workshops are open to adult and student presenters, including mixed youth–adult teams, and should connect Summit themes to practical strategies participants can use in classrooms, organizations, and communities.

We especially welcome workshop proposals that:

  • Include student presenters or youth leadership

  • Offer practical tools, models, or strategies

  • Connect civic learning to real-world civic action

  • Reflect collaboration across schools, organizations, and communities

Civics & Service Slam and Student Showcase

Open to Students

Students are also invited to participate through two youth-centered formats designed to highlight student voice and leadership:

  • Civics & Service Slam: A short, spoken presentation where students share a civic, service, or leadership experience that mattered to them.

  • Student Showcase: A poster or slide-based display where students share projects and talk informally with Summit participants.

These formats offer supportive, engaging ways for students to share their work and learn from educators and community partners.

Organization Tabling & Sponsorship Opportunities

Civic organizations, nonprofits, museums, libraries, higher education partners, and community groups are invited to table at the Summit, connect with participants, and share resources. Organizations interested in sponsorship opportunities or deeper partnership are encouraged to reach out to explore options.
